The Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) have several programs to support you. Army Community Service (ACS) is a valuable family support service available to provide support services to ease your transition to the FMMC and the NCR. The Start Right Newcomers Orientation is the official welcome brief held every Thursday, 0800-1600, sponsored by the Human Resource Division. The orientation will familiarize you with the in-processing requirements. Army Community Service is constantly looking for volunteers to help us provide a valuable service to the community. Army Family Action Plan (AFAP) Program Manager: Pam Eller, (703) 696-3510. AFAP is a grassroots level forum for soldiers, civilians, and retirees and family members, to identify issues that affect quality of life and propose solutions that build self-reliance. The AFAP process further unites the FMMC community and keeps all levels of the chain of command informed. Delegates from units on post and installation families represent America's Army Family by identifying, developing, and prioritizing unit/community/ installation quality of life issues. Army Family Team Building (AFTB) Program Manager: Pam Eller, (703)696-3510. AFTB is a program to help improve overall military readiness by improving personal and family preparedness. This is accomplished through training classes which help people adapt to change and become more self-reliant. The program is divided into three levels: Level I: is designed for spouses who are new to the military. Level II: is designed for spouses who are involved in the unit and community, but want to learn more for personal growth as well as group dynamics. Level III: is designed for spouses desiring advanced leadership skills. AFTB is located in Bldg 201 Custer Road, Fort Myer.

Army Volunteer Corps Coordinator (AVCC) Program Manager: Pam Eller, (703) 696-3510. The Army Volunteer Corps Coordinator provides support for all volunteer activities on the installation. Volunteer Recognition is managed by the IVC. All training and recognition awards are also coordinated and prepared at the IVC. Want to volunteer? Call Ms. Eller.

Army Emergency Relief (AER) Program Manager: Trina Reliford, (703) 696-3510. AER is a private non-profit organization that provides emergency financial assistance to military personnel (active and retired) and their families in times of distress. AER exists primarily for helping the Army take care of its own. Examples for which AER funds can be authorized: Non-receipt of pay and/or allotments to prevent privation, Loss of pay or other personal funds; emergency medical, dental and hospital expenses; funeral expenses for dependents; initial rent or to prevent eviction; emergency leave travel funds. Deployment or Mobilization and Stability and Support Operations (SSOs) (703) 696-3510. Family assistance and support services will be provided to families of Active Component, Guard, and Reserve Component (RC) forces and emergency-essential civilians in support of military operations-deployment or mobilization and SSOs (includes mass casualties, evacuation and natural disasters) to enhance unit cohesion and increase readiness.

Employment Readiness Program (ERP) Program Manager: Judy Joyner, (703) 696-3510. The Employment Readiness Program (ERP) is designed to provide a full range of employment services that contribute to the overall morale and welfare of soldiers, family members and federal civilian employees. ERP maximizes opportunities for initial and continued employment in both the public and private sectors. As an employment resource office, ERP provides job leads, career planning and counseling, and assistance in completing Federal employment applications, and resumes.

Family Advocacy Program (FAP) Program Manager: Laurie Brown, (703) 696-3510. The Family Advocacy Program provides services to soldiers and their family members in the prevention of domestic violence and child abuse through community awareness campaigns, life skill education classes, professional education, and troop and commander briefings. FAP is divided into two areas: the enrichment program and support services, located at ACS, (703) 696-3512 and intervention services (counseling), located at the Andrew Rader Clinic, Fort Myer [(703) 696-3456]. The following programs are offered:

All enrichment classes have a minimum number of participants required to conduct the class; therefore, pre-registration is required for all classes no later than three business days prior to the class date.

Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) Program Manager: Marcia O’Connor, (703) 696-3510. The Exceptional Family Member Program ensures that service members receive the information and assistance needed to support family members with disabilities in specialized programs and to pinpoint areas where resources can meet their needs. EFMP offers an extensive listing of national, regional, and local resources, support groups, and parent advocacy centers. Clients can receive information about various subjects, including but not limited to, EFMP enrollment, respite care, resources, advocacy, special education, early intervention services, federal and local laws, and educational materials.

Families with exceptional members will be informed of their rights and responsibilities under local and federal laws and of the type of community services available to meet their needs. Information and Referral (I&R) (703) 696-3510. Information and Referral maintains an integrated resource file of sources of service to which personnel may be referred. Referral procedures are used when it is not possible to provide immediate direct assistance. Follow-up procedures are provided to ensure that needs have been met.

The Fort Myer Military Community Army Community Service (ACS) Relocation Readiness Program partners with Fort Belvoir ACS to assist military-affiliated personnel, and their families, with the tools needed to ensure a smooth transition from one location to another.

Relocation is always a challenge; it is never easy to leave friends and family behind. While no move is without its difficulties, careful planning can often make the difference between a challenging move and a smooth move. Contact the Relocation Readiness Program (RRP) as soon as you know where your new duty station is going to be, you may also contact the Transportation Office at (703) 806-4900. The RRP staff can provide information on your new PCS station, community, schools, shopping, jobs, etc.

Services provided by the Fort Myer Relocation Readiness Program:

Lending Closet Assistance is available for families PCS-ing to or from Fort Myer in the form of basic household items on loan for a designated period of time while waiting shipment or travel. Items available include: pots, pans, dishes, car seats, high chairs, playpens, futons, and more.

Welcome Packets The Fort Myer Relocation Readiness Program has a welcome packet with information on post and surrounding areas to help new personnel get adjusted to their new assignment. Welcome packets are available through written request or stopping by ACS during regular business hours. Please ask your sponsor to forward a welcome packet or click the link to request one from ACS RRP.

START RIGHT The Start Right Newcomers Briefing is an excellent resource; it will assist you and your family members with a smooth Permanent Change of Station (PCS) to the National Capital Region.

CAIR The Center for Area Information and Referral provides personalized relocation assistance to incoming military and civilian personnel. CAIR facilitates your move by providing information on topics ranging from temporary lodging, permanent housing to BAH/VHA information. CAIR is also made available for individual situations regarding the Exceptional Family Member Program, Youth Sponsorship for ages 6-18, spouse employment information, or other information. By calling 1-800-477-9571 or DSN 426-0026, you can obtain accurate information, and answers to your specific questions.

Sponsorship ACS Relocation Readiness Program provides unit sponsorship training monthly and upon request. Incoming Soldiers should receive a welcome letter and packet from their assigned sponsor before their arrival to Fort Myer. If you do not hear from your sponsor, you can contact your gaining unit. It is essential Soldiers formally request sponsorship by completing DA 5434 Sponsorship Request Form. This Form should be filled out completely and indicate any special needs or requirements for soldiers or their family members and should indicate any additional information required.

MilitaryHOMEFRONT This Department of Defense web site provides Soldiers and family members regularly updated information about all Department of Defense installations.

Multicultural Family Services ACS offers a program designed for foreign-born spouses of military service members. This program consists of three parts:

1) English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes held regularly, call ACS for current class schedules. You can also improve your skills at http://www.march2success.com/. Created by the U.S. Army, this free, online resource includes self-paced courses such as Comprehensive English. All of the site tools are easy to use and available to anyone over age 13. Simply go to the website, click the student key, and register at the bottom of the student page. Once logged on, go to Standardized Test Preparation and then go to the Language Arts Section.

2) Foreign-Born Spouses Readiness Group, an interactive group focusing on everyday life in the United States and a chance to share your culture with others. For general information, spouses are encouraged to visit the National Military Family Association (NMFA) for the foreign-born spouse web site.

3) “Out and About” monthly “Field Trips” to various DC- metro locations giving you a chance to try out your new skills!

Citizenship and Naturalization Assistance Citizenship classes are offered to Soldiers and family members who are preparing to become U.S. citizens. The class reviews U.S. government structure, U.S. history, and the procedures to become a U.S. citizen. A citizenship manual and 100 sample questions are provided for individual study.
